ADIO LAB – RIBOSOME RESEARCH

Research in my group focusses on RNA biochemistry on the single molecule level. We aim to understand processes related to the translation of pro- and eukaryotic mRNAs in order to gain insights into the mechanisms and regulation of protein synthesis.

To this end, we reconstitute ribosome complexes from purified components and develop single-molecule fluorescence imaging techniques in order to analyze the structural and compositional dynamics of translating ribosomes in real-time.

Our research reveals in molecular detail how ribosomes act as molecular machines in translation. Additionally, our in vitro translation systems allow demonstration of biomedical problems such as aberrant translation during stress and diseases, and allow testing of the action of therapeutics such as antibiotics.
